Product Details

Love the sweet, exotic flavor of tropical jackfruit but don't have space for a massive tree? Mini Nangka delivers delicious, homegrown tropical fruit on a compact, highly manageable bush.

While traditional jackfruit trees can grow up to 15 meters tall, the 'Nangka Mini' selection is a dwarf variety that typically reaches just 2 to 3 meters. It bears sweet, aromatic, golden fruit much earlier than standard jackfruit—often within 2 to 3 years. The smaller fruit size (around 2 to 4 kg) makes harvesting and preparing in the kitchen vastly easier than managing full-sized 20 kg jackfruits!

With proper winter protection and a warm, sunny microclimate, Mini Nangka can thrive in suburban Perth gardens, courtyards, or large pots.

Key Features

  • Compact / Dwarf Size: Naturally grows to only 2–3m tall (and can be kept smaller with light pruning), making it ideal for home gardens and large containers.
  • Easier to Harvest & Process: Yields manageable, smaller-sized fruits (2–4 kg) with rich, sweet, tropical flesh reminiscent of banana, mango, and pineapple.
  • Precocious Bearer: Begins flowering and fruiting at a much younger age than standard jackfruit varieties.
  • Versatile Culinary Uses: Enjoy the ripe golden flesh fresh or in desserts, or harvest the firm, green fruit early to use as a popular savory, meat-free alternative in curries.
  • Ornamental Foliage: Lush, deep green evergreen leaves create a striking tropical accent in suburban gardens.

Care & Growing Tips for Perth

  • Position: Requires a warm, sunny, frost-free location protected from harsh winter winds. A north-facing wall or sheltered courtyard microclimate is ideal.
  • Soil: Needs rich, organic, very well-draining soil. In Perth's sandy ground, heavily enrich with compost, well-rotted manure, and soil improver. Sensitive to waterlogging.
  • Watering: Water regularly during active growth in spring and summer. Reduce watering significantly over cold winter months to protect sensitive root systems.
  • Frost & Cold Protection: Young trees are vulnerable to frost and sustained severe cold. Protect with shade cloth or microclimate shelters during their first few Perth winters.
  • Pruning: Prune after harvest to control shape, maintain low branching, and clear out dead wood.
